Program: Jill Harrell (Camp Ryla); Elliot Benge (Ambassadorial Scholar, Salamanca, Spain)

We began the meeting with a formal analysis of our opening music, “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.” Chuck opened the discussion with an overview of the form, arguing that the structure employed a typical ‘Song Form’ (AABA— verse, verse, chorus, verse), while others suggested that while the binary AABA form was mostly correct, there was the problem of the Coda. Did it represent a small change in the primary motif, that is, expanding the ‘A’ section to include the words, “because I’m free, nothing’s worryin’ me, (A1)” or was this musical phrase its own theme outright, constituting a ternary ‘C’ motif?. The discussion broke down at this point with some advocating an AABA1  song form, and others insisting that it represented the more sophisticated (and asymmetrical!) AABAC form. Ross settled the debate by declaring it simply too high to sing.

We welcomed guest speakers Jill Harrell (and her dad Jeff), and Benge Elliot, as well as other guests Mitch Barnett, Mary Whistler, Alisa Peters, and Gene Meechum.

JB won the opportunity to draw for the Lottery Dollars Raffle, which is now in the  4-figures range, but was unlucky. Roll it back in! Lydia bragged on her visit to the Mexican Baptist Association, who elected their first female President. We also bragged on Rick Shaw in Kenya. Rob Wilkinson was inducted as Sergeant-at-arms.

We enjoyed a recap of Camp RYLA from Jill Harrell, and a picturesque overview of Benje Eliott’s time in Salamanca, Spain.
